Lisa found her passion for soccer in an unusual way. Trying to nurture a “proper young lady” and trying to find something she would enjoy, her parents enrolled her in many “girly” activities; dance, gymnastics, piano, sewing, and cooking and youth groups. When Lisa was 12 yrs old, they decided they would let her try soccer. She couldn’t get enough. She played anywhere she could find a team. There were no girl soccer teams in Jr. High so she played on the boy’s soccer team. There were no girl teams in the local High Schools so she helped petition the school board to get a girls soccer team and won. Lisa played all 3 years on the first Varsity Team in her High School. The first Varsity Coach was the school librarian, holding a book in her hand on “How to Coach Soccer”. Lisa was accepted to be on one of the first Southern California State Teams for women, but chose to start a family instead. She continued to play in local women’s leagues that were just forming.

In 1984, wanting to be more involved and hoping to give kids the same passion she had found for the game, she started her coaching and referee career with the local AYSO program that first captured her attention. She has been on the Moorpark Board since 1986 and held almost every Board Position through out the years. Lisa has her coaching certificates thru the Advanced Level for AYSO and USSF “D” License. Lisa has coached all ages U6 thru U19 and all levels, League, All-Stars/Tournament teams, taking many of them all the way to Section Finals.

In 1999, Lisa joined forces with her League rival coach, German Valdivia, they have been successfully co-coaching ever since. They started with an AYSO GU10 All-star/Tournament Team. In 2003 their U12 team joined APEX Soccer Club because of its Integrity and “Players First” philosophy. Their second season they lead their team to 1st place in the Bronze Bracket and advanced to the Silver Bracket the following year. Their core team stayed together until 2007 when some of the girls moved on to college.

Lisa and German are currently co-coaching the Apex SC B99 team.
