The Apex SC G94 Black and White teams ended a great weekend against one another in the finals of the 25th Annual Holiday Classic Tournament in Anaheim. Both teams were undefeated with a combined score of 13 goals for and only 1 goal against going into the finals. The ’94 Black team only conceded 1 goal against going into the finals winning 2-1 versus South County Premier SC, 3-0 versus Simi Valley Chivas-USA and a 0-0 draw against Bakersfield Brigade G94. The ’94 White team was not scored on in pool play giving them 3 shuts-outs wins going into the finals winning 4-0 versus Corona Eagles G94 Navy, 2-0 versus BRM Vipers and 2-0 against Stompers FC (Nevada).
Before the final game began the teams were all smiles taking pictures together including the referees “MLS” style. When the whistle blew it was all business and both teams fought very hard for the championship title. In the end there could only be one winner and the Apex SC G94 Black team was able to get 2 goals past the White team and claim the top spot in the tournament. The White team was pleased with their play and was glad to have only conceded a loss against their own club in 4 games. Congratulations to both Apex SC teams for an outstanding weekend of soccer.

The Apex SC G92 team was the champions in the Simi Valley Labor Day Invitational Tournament. The team was undefeated in 5 games with a record of 4 wins and 1 tie despite temperatures over 100 degrees and multiple player injuries. The girls were finalists at their last tournament the Capo Cup in San Juan Capistrano.
The team started the weekend out with a 2-2 tie against Real California Black; with goals by Emily Dellentash and Sophia Ferrone. In their second game of the day the girls picked up the play against Simi Valley Eclipse. Although the girls were dominating the game it remained scoreless at the half. The only goal of the game came during the 45th minute of play. Gina Goryoka hit a corner kick to Rachel Medina who scored with an unstoppable header into the upper left hand corner of the goal.
In the first match on Sunday the team played Odyssey Red. It was a very hard fought game with both teams having chances to score. In the 59th minute of play Apex drew a foul 35 yards from the goal. Madison Stark took a shot to the far post with Gina Goryoka, Alex Smith and Kelley Klezek crashing the goal. The Odyssey goal keeper batted the ball down out of the air and all three players followed up the shot with Gina Goryoka finishing the ball and ending the game in a 1-0 victory. This put the team into the semi finals against Real So Cal later that day.
In the Semi-Finals both Apex SC and Real So Cal played a very fast, aggressive match ending in a scoreless tie at the end of 60 minutes. The game went straight to penalty kicks with no overtime periods. The PK’s ended in a 3-1 victory for Apex with goals by Alex Smith, Madison Stark and the winning shot by Sarah Morris. Goalkeeper Emily Ortiz made two great saves to put the team into the finals.
The final game on Monday was a re-match between Apex SC and Real California FC. Both teams were determined to win the game and had multiple opportunities to score. At half time the game remained 0-0 as the temperature moved into the 100s. 10 minutes into the second half Apex received a corner kick. Gina Goryoka hit a great ball into the box where Julie Watson headed the ball toward the net. It was deflected by a Real player and followed up by Kelley Klezek who buried the winning goal into the back of the net.
The Apex SC G92 team ended the weekend Champions and undefeated with a record of 4 wins and 1 tie with 5 goals for and only 2 goals against. Goalkeeper Emily Ortiz had 4 shut outs on the weekend. This was the second finals for the team in their last 2 tournaments. The team is coached by Maria Brazell and Jessie Armacost.
We are looking forward to following the progress of this team in the Coast Soccer League Silver Bracket this season. Congratulations to all the players, coaches and families on a great weekend of soccer!

The Apex SC B98 Team took the Santa Barbara Summer Cup tournament with a record of 3-0-1 on the weekend. The tournament was based on points to decide the winner and the B98’s compiled 10 points to take the top spot scoring 11 goals and only allowing 6 goals against. Way to go Apex!!!
The Apex SC B98 team tied the eventual second place team CVSA Red 3-3 in the very first match of the tournament with great goals and spectacular saves. They then took on the Santa Barbara team defeating them 3-1 in the second game of the day. The next day the boys challenged Real So Cal and ended up the victors in a 3-1 game. In the fourth and final match of the weekend the team played Fram CQ. Before the game the standings were such that for the team to lock in the top spot in the tournament they needed to win the game and only allow 1 goal against. This last game turned out to be a real nail biter as Fram CQ scored first and was able to hold the team to a 0-1 half. In the end the team came out ready to play the second half and after some adjustments by the coach the team was able to put 2 goals away and win the game 2-1 and securing the top spot in the tournament.
Congratulations to all the players, family members and coaches on a great weekend of soccer. The team is looking forward to their next tournament over the Labor Day weekend in Simi Valley.

The GU15 were finalists in the 2007 Capo Cup in San Juan Capistrano over the weekend. They were undefeated in pool play with 13 goals for and 0 goals against.
In their first game of the tournament they played FC Murrieta Blue. The girls played outstanding soccer and possessed the ball very well earning them a 6-0 victory. The next game was against Inland United Brasil who was a very aggressive team. The girls battled hard and came out with a 2-0 shutout victory. On Sunday Apex played Albion Red and beat them 5-0 to keep the shutout streak going and put them into the finals.
After 3 well played games and extreme temperatures the Apex team was left with only 10.5 players to finish the tournament. In the Finals they faced Wolfpack FC’s gold team in what felt like 100 heat. At the half it was Apex 1-0 after a well fought 40 minutes. The girls were being drenched with cold towels and misters and entered the second half with only 9.5 players. In the second half, Wolfpack with fresh legs entering the field every few minutes, was able to comeback and win the game.
The girls, coaches and families were very pleased with the accomplishments of the team on the weekend. They fought hard and were able to score 14 goals with 3 shut outs and no goals against in pool play.
Congratulations to all for a great weekend of soccer! The team will compete next in the Simi Valley Labor Day Tournament.

Excitement, nervousness, disappointment and joy could all be used to describe feelings for the Apex Soccer Clubs Girls U12 soccer team this weekend at the Santa Barbara Spring Cup. Just two months ago this team was starting to form and now has 14 great, hardworking, fun excited soccer players, who have come together as a team to win a Championship!
To kick off the Santa Barbara tournament their first game against Glendora resulted in an exciting 2-1 win. The Apex girls had never played as a team before so it was a great win in many ways. Their second game against CVU they were defeated 1-2 which gave them 1 win and 1 loss for their first day of play. With the 1 win and 1 loss record they placed 4th out of 7 teams moving them into the semi-finals on Sunday morning for a rematch against CVU who placed 1st out of the 7 teams.
Determined to not be defeated again; the girls played the semi-finals with a lot of heart and were able to overcome a 1 goal deficit to win the game 2-1 and move them onto the Finals. During the championship game, in the first half the Apex girls shots were stopped many times by the opposing keeper, but they never let down. With 5 minutes to go in the first half the X-Plosives team scored leaving the Apex girls 1-0 down at the half but the Apex girls knew the game was not over. The second half Apex fought back tying the game 1-1. As the half went on Apex pulled away scoring 2 more goals to make the game 3-1 with the X-Plosives scoring once more to make the final score 3-2. In their first tournament as a team the Apex G’94 team showed that they have what it takes to be Champions.
Congratulations to all Apex U12 Girls and their families for all the hard work, preparation and support of the new team. The players include Cameron Cooper, Jaclyn Detwiler, Brigitte Empey, Stephanie Griffith, Marissa Horton, Jordan Kerner, Katelyn Kimball, Julia Mahterian, Brooke Newman, Sydnee Stubbs, Amy Schwartz, Greer Shellow, Nicole Wildermuth, and Alison Wilcox and are coached by Alicia Bueschen. These players are from Thousand Oaks, Agoura Hills, Oak Park, Moorpark, Westlake Village, Newbury Park areas. We look forward to more success in the coming month in preparation for the fall season.

The Apex Soccer Club Boys U8 team took 2nd place in the 2007 Anaheim Spring Cup. This was the team’s second tournament as a team coached by Kyle Brazell and John Krill. The boys were the U8 Champions in the Irvine Winter Classic in January.
In their first match of the Anaheim Spring Cup tournament Apex came up against the Penguins who had traveled from Nevada to play in the tournament. The Penguins were a fast and very physical team that had not come to California for just a vacation. Despite their speed and size advantage the Apex Boys overcame them with a 2-0 victory to start the tournament off with a win.
In their second game they played the TVSA Hawks from Temecula. Apex and TVSC were neck and neck the whole game with near goals on both sides. As the game went on the sidelines fill up with not only fans of each team but of other spectators and players from other teams in the tournament. This was an all out battle between two very skilled teams. The teams continued back and forth until 3 minutes left in the game when the Hawks hit a shot from 25 yards out that sailed over the Apex goal keeper to win the game 1-0. After the game ended the tournament director complimented both teams on an outstanding game. He had never seen such high level soccer played at that age level. At that point both teams knew they had not seen the last of one another.
Apex’s third game was against the JUSA Wrecking Crew from Anaheim Hills. After a night of rest and reflection on their second game the Apex Boys were hungry for a win. They scored 2 goals in the first 10 minutes of play and never looked back. Although the final score was 2-0 the score did not reflect the number of quality chances for additional goals. With a win against JUSA the Apex Boys were slated to play a rematch final against the TVSA Hawks.
With great anticipation the finals began just as their first meeting had been; fast, aggressive and a low scoring game. With both teams having chance after chance the competitive game continued between both teams until the Hawks were able to squeeze one past the Apex goal keeper to win the game 1-0. The tournament ended and both teams were pleased with their play and know that they will be seeing each other in the future.
For the Apex Boys their second tournament had been a success and they had faced a great team that pushed them to play at a new high level of the game. They came away with invaluable game experience and were already looking forward to their next challenge awaiting them in the Santa Barbara Spring Cup playing up in the U9 age group.
The Apex Boys U8 team is composed of players from Thousand Oaks, Newbury Park, Westlake Village and Agoura Hills. Players are Oliver Chow, Lars Defty, Nicholas Eble, Matthew Edelman, Dane Friesel, Isaiah Garza, Spencer Griffith, Jack Hayes, Anthony Holmes, Joseph Holliday, Ryan Pelino, Camillo Sauegessig, Ari Sidman, Dawson Waggoner and are coach by Kyle Brazell and John Krill.

Apex Soccer Club coach John Daykin was named Cal South Development Coach of the Year for the 2006 league season.
Two tables of supporters representing Apex SC girls U18 Adrenaline and U19 Addiction teams attended the Cal South's Nike Soccer Awards Banquet at the Wilshire Grand Hotel in downtown Los Angeles on February 17th to hear the announcement of Cal South's Coach of the Year Honors. John was awarded the title of Development Coach of the Year and received a trophy handed over by California South State Director of Coaching Steve Hoffman.
John's nomination recognized how he has inspired players to stay in the game and find their passion, how he has positively impacted individual players' lives outside of soccer, and how his influence has extended beyond the teams he has coached and into the greater soccer community. The nomination made reference to the mentoring of other coaches, contributions to Coaches Education and the Cal South Olympic Development Program, and the writing of coaching articles and a soccer book.
Congratulations to John for his outstanding achievement; recognizing all of the hard work and dedication he has put into the youth soccer community in Southern California.
John continues to coach the Apex SC Adrenaline in their last spring season before the players graduate from High School.
In pool play the Apex SC GU11 team started Sate Cup off with a 1-0 win over Real So Cal Black a tie against DBWV United 0-0 and losing to NC United 0-2 to finalize the pool play round. With a 1-1-1 record Apex placed 2nd in their bracket moving them into the round of 64.
During the round of 64 Apex defeated the TVSA Hawks Red team 3-0; a team that took second place in what is equivalent to a Silver Elite bracket, the win advanced them to the round of 32 the next day. In the round of 32 the Apex GU11 team was defeated 0-3 by a very talented SD Surf Girls Blue team who were undefeated in the San Diego Presidio leagues AA-A North division, which is the equivalent to a Silver Elite bracket in the Coast Soccer League.
Congratulations to the Apex GU11 bronze team for making it to the round of 32 in their first State Cup. Apex SC is very proud of the team’s progress and look forward to their continued success in the Silver bracket next year. We want to recognize the teams coaching staff; Tim Beaulieu, Michael Head and Julie Weisberger for their outstanding direction, training and dedication to the team and the club. Congratulations to all the families on a great first year.

The Apex Soccer Club Boys U8 team went undefeated in their first tournament as a team taking first place in the Irvine Winter Classic. The team did not concede a goal in all four games giving the team the needed four shut out points to take first place in the tournament with 3 wins and 1 tie on the weekend.
This team is 1 of 4 new teams that have been formed out of players that were involved in our Apex Youth Academy Program, some were involved since they were 6 years old, and through a tryout process picking the best U8 players in Ventura and the Los Angeles counties. Our Youth Academy trains players year round and is the first of its kind starting in 2004. Another round of Tryouts will be held on February 24th in Thousand Oaks for players U9 – U15 for the 2007-2008 season. Check out our tryout and youth academy sections for full details about our programs.
The U8 boys will be playing scrimmages over the next few weeks against Santa Barbara Soccer Club and others to prepare for their next tournament in March. Congratulations to the players and their families on an extremely successful first outing as a team. We look forward to following the team’s progress as they prepare for the 2007-2008 season as a U9 team.

The Apex Girls U-11 team took second place in the top flight of the Rich Bailey Girls’ Friendship tournament in Anaheim on January 20-21. In pool play, the girls competed against very strong Silver teams from Crescenta Valley and AVSC Ambush, winning 2-1 and 2-0. The girls advanced to the semi-finals and played an exciting match against a fantastic team from Laguna Niguel, winning 4-1 on penalty kicks at the end of regulation. In the finals, the team went up against the Westside Breakers and held them scoreless for 48 minutes, but the Breakers scored a couple of beautiful goals in the last few minutes of the match to earn the win.
We’re very proud of how this team is developing. Defeating three Silver teams and competing strongly against a team moving up to Silver Elite is a major accomplishment. Way to go girls!
